Because He Lives – Bill Gaither (Chords)

Another old song.

How the song usually sounds like, but here’s a great violin cover of it by Jennifer Jeon.

Edited slightly from Ultimate Guitar chords.

Thoughts

An encouraging song to listen to and think about. Tells the gospel in the first verse, re-affirms the hope we have in Christ in the second and looks at the pain of death and following joyful glorification in the last verse.

Until then, the “calm assurance” which one feels they sometimes have in common with Jung’s statement of knowledge is well expressed in the chorus. I like songs that don’t skip talk about death (The old joke – “Everyone wants to get to heaven but nobody wants to die to get there”) or romanticize it, so as one of the few songs I know which does talk about death for a couple of lines, it’s a favourite of mine.

Chords

(Underscores are to replace spaces for some chords – treat them as blank spaces)

[Verse 1]

_                 G                    C

God sent His Son, they called Him, Jesus;

_                  G                            D

He came to love, heal and forgive;

_                         G    G7                     C

He lived and died to buy my pardon,

_                      G                           D                      G

An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!

[Chorus]

_           G                 C

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,

_              G                  D

Because He lives, all fear is gone;

_                 G             G7             C                                 C

Because I know, I know He holds the future,

_       G

And life is worth the living,

D                      G

Just because He lives!

[Verse 2]

_                     G             C

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,

_                        G                 D

And feel the pride and joy he gives;

_                     G              C

But greater still the calm assurance:

_                 G                           D                              G

This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!

[Verse 3]

_                       G                  C

And then one day, I’ll cross the river,

_                        G                D

I’ll fight life’s final war with pain;

_                      G                     C

And then, as death gives way to vict’ry,

_                G                       D                             G

I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He lives!

Fluff

This song sounds good with someone echoing a split second after each line “Because He-Because He lives….”
